THE CHATTANOOCHEE HILL TOWNSHIP

Friendship Village is a new township of 10,000 population. A feasibility study was carried out for its 242 acres Town Center. Developing on a greenfi eld, the site for the Town Center is constrained by steep topography, hardwood forest, and streambeds. These are key design elements: 1. Economic Development: Retail visibility was a key issue. A street network was established to direct retail and residential development by aligning to existing roads, parkway, and topography. 2. Flexible Plan: Urban blocks were sized to accommodate unforeseen future land uses/land use changes while ensure walkability, pedestrian life.
3. Feasible Phasing: The Town Square defi ned the center of growth with initial rows of retail and residential here. Shops, apartments, district school, church, daycare, and junior anchors come after.
